Times Tables
It is important for the children to learn their time’s table facts and to be able to recall them quickly and accurately. Year 2 should learn their 2, 5 and 10 times. Your child will complete a times table challenge every Tuesday.
Spellings
Year 2 children have six spellings to learn each week. They will be tested on these six spellings and four random spellings from previous weeks. This is to encourage the children to continue to revise previous spellings. Please encourage your child to practice the spellings every week. Your child will complete a spelling challenge every Friday.
Reading
From year 2 upwards we use a guided reading scheme called Complete Comprehension. Complete comprehension is a school-wide programme designed to equip the children with everything they need to become strong, successful and independent readers. The scheme teaches all the different strands in reading: word meaning, prediction, retrieval, relationship, summarising, word choice, inference and comparison.
High-quality texts are used as a basis to teach the different skills required with well-structured questions to support the children’s understanding.
In order for the children to make progress with their reading, it is important that they read regularly at home and consider the different strands of comprehension.
